Shiite sect was not cultivated in the rich land of Iranian culture
I did not get to read this article in its entirety, but I think I read enough to have understanding of it sufficient to be able to render opinion on it, at least, on a couple of issues.

The period of time during which Shiite sect dominated Iran is, indeed, very complicated. For example, see the account of Dr. Amir Hosseyn-e Khonji (http://www.irantarikh.com/)and then compare it with the common, or should I say “accepted”, understanding of the Iranians from that period.

Two important points of this article are based on that very complicated period of time, meaning: The spread of Shiite sect in Iran and the pronounced emergence of Iran as a country again.

Shiite sect was not cultivated in the rich land of Iranian culture. Shiite sect was born in Lebanon. Iranians adhered to it as a symbol of opposition to the mainstream interpretation of Islam held by the Arab authorities. But this adherence to the Shiite sect was more a matter of heart or maybe as an added motivation to the cause of resistance against the invading Arabs. This initial love of Shiite sect was more than anything else a symbol of resistance.

This inclination then was mixed with the mystic and exaggerated beliefs of the “Qezelbash ha” who were not Iranian and was eventually forced upon Iranian people. Therefore the resulting mixture of Shiite sect and Iranian nationalism, whatever we call it, it is incorrect to call it a natural extension of Iranian culture. Nevertheless, I don’t deny that Shiite sect did get some influence from the Iranian culture and that is very normal and happens everywhere.
