حزب کمونیست استرالیا طرز برخورد با رضا شهابی، سندیکالیست زندانی شده در زندان رجایی شهر ایران را که در حال حاضر در اعتصاب غذا بسر می‌برد، به شدیدترین وجه ممکن محکوم می‌کند.
رضا شهابی عضو هیئت مدیره سندیکای کارگران شرکت اتوبوس‌رانی تهران و حومه است. او و دیگر اعضای سندیکا به دلیل ایجاد تشکلات مستقل از دولت و کارفرمایان و به منظور خدمت به اعضای خود تحت پی‌گرد قانونی قرار گرفته و زندانی شده اند. رضا شهابی و دیگر اعضای سندیکا بدین جهت از کار خود اخراج، زندانی و مورد شتم و ضرب قرار گرفته اند.

رضا شهابی در سال ۲۰۱۰ دستگیر و به پنج سال زندان محکوم شد. او در حالی که محکومیت پنج ساله خود را تمام کرده است، دوباره به دادگاه فراخوانده شد و به یک‌سال دیگر زندان محکوم گردید. وی به علت آسیب های فیزیکی ناشی از رفتار خشونت آمیز در زندان، متحمل دو عمل جراحی در ناحیه گردن و کمر شده است. در حالی که پزشکانش دستور مرخصی درمانی به رضا شهابی داده بودند، اما نیروهای امنیتی و مقامات قضایی که اقدامات غیرقانونی را علیه وی برقرار ساخه اند، تمام دوران مرخصی درمانی او را غیبت از زندان در نظر گرفته اند که می بایست ۹۶۸ روز دیگر در زندان بماند.
رضا شهابی جهت اعتراض به این حکم غیرقانونی و ناعادلانه خود اعتصاب غذا کرده است! این سندیکالیست شجاع، که راننده اتوبوس و عضو هیئت مدیره سندیکای کارگران شرکت اتوبوسرانی تهران و حومه است، از تاریخ ۹ اوت ۲۰۱۷َ اعتصاب غذا کرده است.
حزب کمونیست استرالیا صدای خود را به لیست بسیاری دیگر در سراسر جهان اضافه می کند که خواهان آزادی فوری رضا شهابی از زندان و پایان دادن به اذیت و آزار سندیکالیست های ایران هستند.

CPA statement on the Reza Shahabi, Iranian trade unionist of hunger strike

The Communist Party of Australia condemns in the strongest possible terms the treatment of trade unioinst Reza Shahabi currently on hunger strike in the Rajai Shahr Prison in Iran.

Reza Shahabi is a member of the board of directors of the Union of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company. He and other members of the union are prescuted and imprisoned for their vital work of creating an organisation independant of government and employers in order to serve its own members. For this reason Reza Shahabi and others have been fired, imprisoned and beaten.

Reza Shahabi was arrested in 2010 and sentenced to five years in prison. While serving his five-year sentence, Shahabi was again called to court and sentenced to an additional year in jail. Due to the physical harm caused by violent treatment in prison, he had to undertake two surgical interventions to his neck and waist. While his medical leave from jail was ordered by his doctors, the security forces and judicial authorities who oversaw the illegal proceedings against him, considered the entire period of medical leave for Reza Shahabi to be an absence from jail and that he should remain in prison for another 968 days.

Reza has been on hunger strike for protesting this unlawful and unfair ruling. This brave trade unionist, who is a bus driver and a board member of the Union of Workers of the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, has been on hunger strike since 9 August, 2017.

The Communist Party of Australia adds its voice to the many others across the world demanding the immediate release of from prison of Reza Shahabi and an end to the persecution of trade unionists in Iran.
