عنوان : The word "mellat" means a nation-state.
Languages are not classified as being the same or being in the same family only based on identical syntaxes or number of common vocabularies. The differentiation is a rather technical matter that requires experts of the field.
Kurdish and Persian (Farsi) belong to the same branch of Iranian languages. Persian and Arabic belong to two different branches. Persian is an Indo-European language and Arabic is a Semitic language.
There are ۴ major different types of Kurdish languages and some of them are as apart as two different ones.
The word “nation” (mellat in Persian), as discussed in this context, only means a nation-state. Otherwise, both in Persian and other European languages the word “mellat” or “nation” do have other usages. For example, in the past, “mellat” was used to refer to a religious sect. Or the word “nation” in addition to referring to a nation-state also means a group of people who have a common language, religion, etc.
It’s best to keep these meanings clear and unambiguous. I have seen this mistake or distortion even by such individuals as Dr. Reza Barahani referring to the telegraph sent at the time of Mashruteh revolution using the work “mellat” and concluding that Azarbayjan by herself is a “mellat”, or by Dr. Golmoradi in an article in this very site incorrectly referring to the writings of Mr. Mazdak Bamdadan, actually, related to the same subject and again concluding incorrectly and never correcting himself.
The problem of our great historic nation at the current time is democracy and freedom combined with secularism and social justice. Long live Iran and all Iranians.
