El jueves día ۱۱ de enero de ۲۰۱۲ tuve noticia de su encuentro amistoso en La Habana con el Sr. Ahmadinejad, el indebidamente declarado presidente de mi país y una de las personas más decepcionantes que lo han gobernado. De usted he aprendido honestidad y franqueza, por ello quisiera ser un buen estudiante y seguir su ejemplo para recordarle, con sinceridad algunas cosas:
En ۱۹۷۵, Cuba siguiendo su heroica política internacionalista tomó parte de una guerra en Angola contra el régimen del Apartheid de Sudáfrica, lo que condujo a la derrota de este último en la decisiva batalla de Cuito Cuanavale. El compañero Nelson Mandela consideró esta batalla como la raíz de la victoria final del Congreso Nacional Africano y la derrota del racista régimen sudafricano.
Estimado Fidel, su pueblo luchó en Angola en número superior a los ۱۰۰.۰۰۰, un país que está más lejos de La Habana que Moscú, un país que está a más de ۱۳ horas de vuelo de La Habana. Ustedes lucharon en guerras por la liberación de África, que resultaron en cientos de muertos y mártires cubanos. Después de todas aquellas luchas heroicas, ¿cómo puede usted soslayar la brutalidad del régimen iraní contra su propio pueblo?
Además, Cuba mostrando su heroica solidaridad resistió junto con Etiopia la invasión extranjera. En ۱۹۶۳, nuestros camaradas cubanos fueron a ayudar a Argelia a asegurar su independencia de Francia. Valientes soldados cubanos pelearon y murieron en Guinea-Bissau y Angola contra el poder colonial portugués. Después de todo esto, ¿cómo puede usted ser tan neutral sobre el giro que los acontecimientos están tomando en Irán mi país, y cómo puede usted tomar un camino tan equivocado?, ¿No fue usted quien en ocasión del XIX aniversario del levantamiento del ۲۶ de julio dijo: “Nunca abandonaremos nuestros principios internacionales. Nunca venderemos nuestra política extranjera”?
Déjeme recordarle que Cuba tuvo una atrayente relación económica con el anterior régimen iraní del Sha Mohammad-Reza Pahlaví. Entonces usted no dudó en reunirse con el liderazgo del Partido Tudeh (del Pueblo) de Irán – que al igual que ahora se hallaba ilegalizado –, aún cuando usted sabía que su encuentro personal con este partido marxista-leninista, podría afectar negativamente esta relación. Esto resultó en la ruptura de relaciones del Sha con Cuba en ۱۹۷۶. Después de todo, ¿cómo puede usted no ver el brutal ataque del actual gobierno de Irán a la militancia proletaria de Irán?
Si usted recuerda lo que dijo sobre el régimen del Sha, que tenía estrechos lazos con los Estados Unidos: “Nos complacería que Jimmie Carter aconsejara a algunos de sus más estrechos aliados, incluyendo Irán, que paren su política salvaje de tortura, matanza y secuestro de militantes democráticos y movimientos progresistas”. Dígame entonces, ¿cómo ahora puede usted charlar con la nueva camarilla de torturadores y asesinos de mi pueblo?
En ۱۹۹۱ en Matanzas usted proclamó: “La sangre del pueblo de Angola era nuestra propia sangre. La sangre del pueblo namibio es nuestra sangre. ¡La sangre de la humanidad es nuestra sangre!” ¿Qué me dice de la sangre de los iraníes? ¿Es que no es su sangre, la sangre derramada en las calles y en las celdas de las cárceles?
Además, usted condenó decisivamente el violento ataque y masacre de activistas en los años ochenta, resultando en el enfriamiento de las relaciones entre Irán y Cuba. ¿Cómo es posible, que tras todo ello, no pueda usted ver los ataques a activistas políticos en Irán?
Estimado compañero Castro,
No creo que todo esto pueda resumirse en los lazos económicos existentes entre el gobierno de Ahmadinejad y Cuba. No creo que Cuba haya vendido su postura ética y sus principios internacionalistas por los ۲۰۰ millones de dólares que cuesta la cementera que Irán ha prometido construir en Cuba. No puedo creer que los principios humanitarios y creencias revolucionarias de su país se hayan derretido por la planta eléctrica de ۱۵۰۰ MW que Irán promete construir en Cuba. No puedo creerlo en absoluto, porque si usted quisiera vender todo esto, los Estados Unidos habrían pagado un precio mucho mayor que el que Irán puede permitirse. Habrían construido fábricas en Cuba, plantas energéticas y majestuosos campos de golf. Si usted hubiera querido apartar la perspectiva socialista de Cuba no habría resistido tan vehementemente el desmantelamiento del socialismo en la URSS y habría seguido, en vez, el camino de aquellas repúblicas de la antigua URSS. Se parecerían a alguno de aquellos países antes comunistas o socialistas, que ahora se avergüenzan de esa parte de su historia, a cambio de haber sido aliviados de los embargos (Torricelli y Helms-Burton) y de haber facilitado su acceso a los dominios del neoliberalismo. Su heroica lucha fue para crear un país nuevo, un mundo nuevo si me apura: un mundo libre de discriminación, pobreza, lucha de clases, opresión y analfabetismo. Después de todo esto, ¿qué es lo que ha ocurrido para que usted ahora le dé la mano a un hombre que no tiene interés alguno en esa clase de mundo, y que está involucrado activamente en mandar a militantes con ideales como los suyos a las oscuras celdas de las prisiones o a una muerte temprana, y que no ha hecho sino incrementar la discriminación y la pobreza en mi país?
Comandante,
Puedo tan solo deducir que usted no esté totalmente al tanto de los procesos internos de mi país, - y déjeme decirle que de usted, Fidel Castro la querida figura de cuatro generaciones de militantes iraníes y de todo el mundo, espero que conozca los asuntos de Irán. Asimismo, también espero de usted que no diga nada sobre mi país si no lo conoce lo suficiente, y que por favor no invite a su despacho personal a gobernantes como estos. Por ello, tengo la intención de compartir brevemente con usted alguno de los hechos acaecidos en la historia reciente de mi país:
Requiere mucho más que una simple carta el describir en todo detalle todas las injusticias impuestas a mi pueblo en los más de treinta años pasados desde la revolución de ۱۹۷۹. Los nuevos gobernantes, los secuestradores de la revolución, trajeron la masacre desde muy temprano a los hijos e hijas de la revolución. Después de todos estos años, basta una sola mirada para darse cuenta de que ninguno de los lemas de aquella revolución se han cumplido. Probablemente sea mucho más eficiente centrarse en lo ocurrido desde las elecciones presidenciales de ۲۰۰۹, que resultaron en una intensificación de la brutalidad contra aquellos que cuestionaban el resultado proclamado en estas elecciones. Data de aquellos días la disconformidad que siente la juventud iraní hacia sus reuniones con líderes de aquel represivo golpe de estado. Sr. Castro, antes del cierre de esas elecciones, el ۱۲ de junio de ۲۰۰۹, un elevado número de activistas políticos, que cuestionaban el resultado declarado, fue secuestrado en las enormes manifestaciones populares y pacíficas que tuvieron lugar. El derecho a la asamblea en manifestaciones pacíficas está recogido en la Constitución iraní. A pesar de ello, una y otra vez los participantes fueron atacados de forma salvaje por la policía y las milicias pro-gubernamentales. Los golpes, disparos y lanzamiento de gas lacrimógeno depararon ۸۰ muertes. Se han difundido ampliamente las películas y fotografías de estos hechos. Informes fiables indican la prevalencia de la tortura a presos en esos días. Entre las torturas que se cometieron se hallaban: acosos sexuales, golpes, colgamientos boca-abajo del techo, flagelaciones con cables eléctricos y privaciones prolongadas del sueño. La cárcel de Kahrizak fue el epicentro de estos hechos, tras lo cual hasta el gobierno iraní tuvo que aceptar que cinco presos murieron bajo tortura en esta prisión. Los chicos y chicas jóvenes que fueron recogidos de las calles fueron arrestados sin sus derechos más básicos. Los estudiantes universitarios fueron injustamente expulsados de la universidad como resultado de esta detención. En una de estas manifestaciones pacíficas del Movimiento Verde, los mismos coches de policía atropellaron y mataron a varias personas. El video de este hecho también está disponible. Sin embargo, por el momento, ningún militar o paramilitar ha sido juzgado por la comisión de estos brutales hechos, ninguno de los cuáles son aceptables para un socialista.
Puedo decirle con toda certeza que durante estos años, y especialmente durante el régimen de Ahmadinejad, el proletariado ha sido reprimido de forma violenta. Se ha privado a los obreros del derecho a protestar y formar sindicatos independientes. El sindicato Vahed de los conductores de autobús de Teherán ha sido agredido salvajemente desde que en ۲۰۰۵ intentaran reorganizarse. A sus líderes y miembros se les aplicó largas penas de prisión tras haber sido arrestados y torturados. De hecho, los agentes gubernamentales mutilaron a Mansour Osanloo, uno de los líderes de este sindicato, cortándole la punta de la lengua con un cuchillo para evitar que continúe hablando en defensa de los derechos de los trabajadores. En todos estos años, todas las protestas del proletariado han sido fuertemente reprimidas. ¡Fidel, ni un revolucionario ni un comunista pueden apoyarlo!
Soy consciente de que los derechos de las mujeres están salvaguardados en Cuba, donde participan equitativamente en la sociedad junto con los hombres y de hecho exceden proporcionalmente el ۵۰ del mercado laboral. Muchas familias se sustentan gracias a la mujer en Cuba, donde esto es una norma. También conozco que en Cuba, como en muchos otros países, las mujeres disfrutan de su derecho natural a elegir su vestimenta. En la sesión de clausura del II Congreso de la Federación de Mujeres Cubanas en La Habana usted declaró que: “Está claro que las mujeres deben de tomar parte en la lucha contra la explotación, contra el imperialismo, neo-colonialismo, racismo y, en una palabra, por la liberación nacional, y después de que se logren estos objetivos las mujeres podrán entonces luchar por su propia liberación dentro de la sociedad humana”. No obstante, la situación de las mujeres en mi país difiere de ésta. No puedo entrar en pleno de detalle de todas aquellas leyes y acciones del gobierno iraní contra las mujeres de mi país. Sin embargo quisiera al menos atraer su atención al más básico derecho de vestir y sorprenderle diciéndole que las mujeres iraníes están requeridas por ley a cubrir su cuerpo con la excepción de la cara, así como los pies y manos desde los talones y muñecas. La policía hace cumplir esta ley tan retrógrada y castiga cualquier desobediencia con la cárcel y con golpes en la calle. Estimado compañero Castro, ¿cómo puede el Partido Comunista de Cuba apoyar esta brutalidad contra las mujeres?
En ۲۰۰۳, durante un coloquio usted le dijo al pueblo de La Habana: “el ۱۰۰ de los cubanos están protegidos por la Seguridad Social. El ۸۵ tiene casas por las que no pagan impuestos. El restante ۱۵ pagan tan solo un pequeño alquiler, que es menos del ۱۰ de sus ingresos”. En mi país, casi ningún joven puede soñar con comprarse una casa. Los alquileres rondan el ۹۰ de los ingresos y año tras año toman una porción mayor. Los hospitales rehúsan atender a aquellos enfermos con enfermedades difíciles de curar y cada año son más los hospitales que rehúsan servir los beneficios de la Seguridad Social a los pacientes.
En ۱۹۸۸, la Organización Mundial de la Salud estableció una serie de estándares que debían de cumplirse por todos los países para el año ۲۰۰۰. Esta organización alabó a Cuba como el único país del mundo que hubo logrado todos los objetivos para ese mismo año, y por ello recibió usted una medalla de reconocimiento como Presidente de Cuba, medalla que usted volvió a recibir en ۱۹۹۸. Sin embargo, en mi país se ha conocido recientemente que el personal de un hospital de Teherán se llevó a varios pacientes con enfermedades severas, que no podían hacer frente al pago del tratamiento, en una ambulancia dejándolos en mitad de la nada a las afueras de la ciudad. Sabiendo esto, ¿cómo puede usted apoyar todavía la política del gobierno fraudulento de Ahmadinejad?
Cuba es el hogar de la música caribeña y su país ha estado brillando desde hace años en el teatro y la ópera, y hasta muchos críticos norteamericanos han alabado los logros de Cuba. El régimen iraní, sin embargo, está en contra de todo esto. Usted podrá difícilmente encontrar un auditorio que se haya construido después de la revolución. A las mujeres iraníes se les prohíbe cantar y bailar, y de hecho hace unos pocos días el fraudulento gobierno de Ahmadinejad prohibió una respetable organización independiente llamada “La Casa Iraní del Cine”. Recuerdo que usted hizo un llamamiento a todos los países para adherirse al Tratado de Kyoto, para reducir la emisión de gases de efecto invernadero, y para prestar así la atención debida a los asuntos medioambientales y al aire respirable de nuestro planeta. Déjeme contarle algo respecto a la pobre calidad del aire en Teherán, y decirle que millones de personas se exponen cada día a enfermedades muy graves debidas a esta causa. Soy consciente de que una de las tareas de un gobierno es la limpieza de la calidad del aire.
Usted mencionó sobre Cuba que: “Esta sociedad no tiene ni una persona con estudios desempleada. Nosotros dividimos todo lo que tenemos entre todos nosotros y esto es el socialismo: la división justa (equitativa) de todo lo que tenemos. Si tenemos más, cada uno recibirá más, si tenemos menos, dividiremos eso entre todos. No dejaremos a nadie solo. Todos los trabajadores disfrutan de la seguridad social, toda la población tiene acceso gratuito al sistema de salud incluso si todo el mundo necesitase de cirugía cardíaca. Todo el mundo tiene también el derecho a la libre educación”. En Irán, sin embargo, la diferencia entre clases sociales está aumentando alarmantemente. En partes de la capital Teherán la desagradable cara de la pobreza se le enfrenta a uno en cada minuto del día, con grupos de chavales en las señales de “stop” que saltan entre los coches de lujo para vender chicle. No hallará una familia que no esté bregando con el desempleo. Si un obrero contrae una enfermedad que requiera un caro tratamiento, puedo asegurarle que el único camino que le espera es la muerte. Por cierto, ¿ha escuchado algo recientemente sobre la malversación en Irán de ۳.۰۰۰.۰۰۰.۰۰۰ de dólares? ¡Fidel!, ¿defiende usted esta situación? ¿Apoya la postura de los gobernantes que han traído todo esto a mi pueblo? ¿Qué le ha ocurrido a su genuina conciencia revolucionaria?
Hace ya algunos años que en contra de la constitución revolucionaria de ۱۹۷۹, los gobernantes de Irán se embarcaron en una privatización rampante del patrimonio estatal – incluyendo las industrias pesadas. ¡Usted no puede apoyar esta clase de acciones!
En conclusión:
Compañero Fidel estoy cansado de tener que contarle todo esto, le ruego que revise su posición respecto al régimen golpista de Mahmoud Ahmadinejad y se disculpe ante mi pueblo por darle la mano a este dictador. Le suplico consulte al Partido Tudeh de Irán, que es un confidente suyo tras más de ۵۰ años de relaciones fraternales y escuche su consejo fraternal. En febrero de ۲۰۱۱, cuando escribió sobre la “Primavera Árabe” usted dijo: “La pobreza y el desempleo ha impactado sobre los jóvenes y militantes. ¿Cómo podría este pueblo adaptarse a los siempre crecientes precios de los artículos esenciales? En este punto, no queda otra alternativa para la gente que salir a las calles y pedir por sus derechos más básicos. El pueblo que se opone a las balas no puede ser derrotado”. Créame que la situación de mi país no es muy diferente, por ello le pido que tome la misma postura para con nosotros. Le aconsejo se eduque sobre el Movimiento Verde de Irán y le pido que reconsidere apoyar a su antiguo amigo el Sr. Hossein Mousaví, quien sin condena alguna fue ilícitamente puesto bajo arresto domiciliario. Le ruego que dé una respuesta positiva al llamado de los presos iraníes: Mansour Osanloo (sindicalista), Rasoul Bodaghí (del sindicato de maestros), Isa Saharkhiz (periodista), Heshmatollah Tabarzadí (activista político y periodista) para denunciar al gobierno iraní. Le pido que aconseje a la Universidad de La Habana que reconsidere los fundamentos para otorgar el doctorado “Honoris Causa” a Ahmadinejad y que lo devuelva antes de que afecte más a la reputación de este instituto.
Debería decirle también que hace unos días tuve noticia de la procesión de un símbolo religioso en Cuba, al cual atendieron Esteban Lazo, Vice-presidente, y Bruno Rodríguez, Ministro de Asuntos Exteriores de Cuba. En mi opinión esto es un acto que un comunista no debiera apoyar, y que solo contribuye a fortalecer la superficialidad religiosa. Me parece perfectamente correcto que los cubanos expresen libremente sus creencias religiosas. Sin embargo, no puedo comprender por qué miembros del partido comunista deberían atender estas ceremonias. También quisiera aprovechar la oportunidad para pedirle que abandone el filtro de internet en Cuba, para que los cubanos puedan tener libre acceso a toda la información. Deje que sea el pueblo el que decida lo que está bien y está mal.
Déjeme finalizar parafraseando al Ché Guevara: “Si se enfurece al enfrentar una injusticia, es que entonces es uno de mis camaradas”. Usted ha sido un compañero del Ché, esperemos que todos nosotros continuemos siéndolo.

Más tarde o más temprano, el Movimiento Verde de Irán participará en otra manifestación, tomaré una pequeña foto suya que tengo en mi despacho e ingenua pero esperanzadamente compartiré con usted la lucha de mi pueblo contra la injusticia. Espero que esta carta tenga la oportunidad de poder ser traducida al español y de alcanzar sus manos, si muero o soy arrestado ese día.
Estimado Fidel, con su estatura es una desgracia que haya dejado pasar un fantoche a su despacho.

I learned that on Thursday ۱۱th of January of ۲۰۱۲ you had a friendly meeting in Havana with Mr. Ahmadinejad, the wrongfully declared president of my country and one of the most deceptive people that have ruled my country. I have learnt honesty and frankness from you. I would like to be a good student and follow suit in order to remind you, with sincerity, of a few things:
In ۱۹۷۵, Cuba following its heroic internationalist policies took part in a war against Apartheid regime of South Africa in Angola. In the decisive battle of Cuito Cuanavale the Apartheid regime of South Africa was defeated. This was a battle which was deemed by Comrade Nelson Mandela as the root for the eventual victory of ANC and defeat of the South African racist regime.
Dear Fidel, your people fought in Angola in numbers greater than ۱۰۰,۰۰۰, a country farther away from Havana than Moscow, a country with a flight time of more than ۱۳ hours from Havana. They fought in wars for freedom of Africa, which resulted in hundreds of Cuban casualties and martyrs. After all those heroic struggles, how can you overlook the brutality of Iranian regime against its own people?
In addition to this, Cuba showing heroic solidarity stood with Ethiopia against the foreign invasion. In ۱۹۶۳, our Cuban comrades went to Algeria to extend a helping hand in securing their independence from France. Valiant Cuban soldiers fought and died in Guinea Bissau and Angola against the Portugal’s colonial rule. After all that, how can you be so neutral about the turn of events in my county Iran and how can you take such a wrong turn? Wasn’t it you who on the occasion of the ۱۹th anniversary of the ۲۶th of July uprising said: “We will never turn our back on our internationalist principles. We will never put for sale our foreign policies”?
Let me remind you: Cuba had a luring economical relation with the previous Iranian regime of Mohammdreza Shah Pahlavi. While you knew that your personal meeting with the leadership of the Tudeh Party of Iran (which at the time not unlike at this point of time its activities was declared illegal in Iran) could negatively impact this relationship, you did not hesitate to meet with the leadership of that Marxist Leninist party. This resulted in Shah’s ceasing relations with Cuba in ۱۹۷۶. After all that, how can you not see the brutal attack of Iran’s current government on militant proletariat in Iran?
If you remember, at that time about the Shah’s regime, which had very close ties with the US, you said: “We will be glad if Jimmie Carter could advise some of its closest allies including Iran to stop the brutal policies of torturing, killing, and kidnapping of the militants of democratic and progressive movements.” Tell me how you can now chat with the new clique of torturers and killers of my people?
In ۱۹۹۱ in Matanzas you out cried: “The blood of Angolan people was our people’s blood. The blood of Namibian people is our blood. Mankind’s blood is our blood!” What about the blood of Iranians? Our blood spilled on the streets and in the jail cells, that isn’t your blood?
You even decisively condemned the brutal attack against the activists and their massacre during ۱۹۸۰’s in Iran, which resulted in cooling the relationship between Iran and Cuba. After all that, how can you not see the attacks against the political activists in Iran?
Dear Comrade Castro,
I don’t believe that all this can be summarized in the economical ties between the Ahmadinejad government and Cuba. I don’t believe that Cuba has sold its ethical stance and internationalist principles to a ۲۰۰ million dollars cement factory that Iran has promised to build in Cuba. I cannot believe that your country’s humanitarian and revolutionary beliefs will melt down for a ۱۵۰۰ MW power plant, that Iran has promised to build in Cuba. I don’t believe all that, because if you wanted to sell all that USA would have paid you a much higher price than Iran can afford. They would have built in Cuba factories, power plants and even majestic golf courses. If you wanted to set aside the socialist outlook of Cuba, you wouldn’t have resisted so vehemently the dismantling of socialism in USSR and you would have followed the track of one of those old republics of USSR, you would have become like one of those previously communist or socialist countries, who are now so ashamed of that part of their history, and in return you would have been spared off the blockades (Toricelli and Helmes Burton) and eased your way into the realm of Neoliberalism. Your heroic struggle was to create a new country, or even a new world: A world free of discrimination, poverty, class conflict, brutality and illiteracy. After all that, what has happened that you are now shaking hands with a man who has no interest in such a world and is actively involved in sending the militants of your ideals into dark cells of prisons or to an early grave and has done nothing but furthering the discrimination and poverty in my country?

I can only guess that you are not aware of the internal events of my country, (and let me just say that from you, “Fidel Castro” the beloved figure of four generations of militants in Iran and elsewhere in the world, I expect to know of the affairs of Iran. I also expect you to say nothing about my country if you don’t know enough of it, and please don’t invite these rulers to your personal office.) I will now try to briefly share with you, some of the events that have shaped the recent history of my country:
It requires much more than a simple letter to address in its full details all the injustice imposed on my people during the past ۳۰ years after the ۱۹۷۹ revolution. The new rulers, the hijackers of the revolution, very early on took the sons and daughters of the revolution to massacre. After all these years, with a quick glance one can see that none of the slogan’s of that revolution is realized. Probably it would be much more efficient to just focus on the turn of events after ۲۰۰۹ presidential elections, resulting in intensifying the brutality against those questioning the proclaimed outcome of this election. It might be from those days that your meetings with the leaders of a brutal coup d’etat are not going to sit well with Iranian youth. Mr. Castro, before the closing time of this election on June ۱۲th ۲۰۰۹ a large number of political activists were kidnapped, those questioning the declared result took part in majestic popular peaceful rallies. According to the Iranian constitution assembly in peaceful rallies is one of the proclaimed rights. However, each time the participants were brutally attacked by the police and government orchestrated militias. Beatings, shootings and throwing of tear gas resulted in ۸۰ deaths. Films and photos of those events are widely available. Reliable reports indicate the prevalence of torture on prisoners of those days. Sexual attacks, beatings, hanging upside down from the ceiling, lashing with electric cables, prolonged sleep deprivation are among these committed tortures. The “Kahrizak Prison” was the epicentre of these events. Even the Iranian government had to accept that five of the prisoners were killed under torture in this prison. Young boys and girls who were collected from the streets were imprisoned with no basic rights. University students, as the result of this imprisonment, were unfairly expelled from University. Even the police cars in one of these peaceful rallies of the “Green Movement” run over and killed a few people. The video of this event is also accessible. So far, no military or paramilitary person has been persecuted for these brutal events. None of this is supportable by a socialist.
I can tell you with certainty that proletarian activists during all these years, especially under Ahmadinejad’s regime have been brutally attacked. Workers have been deprived of the right to protest and form independent syndicats. The “Syndicat Vahed” of the bus drivers of Tehran which attempted to reorganize in ۲۰۰۵ was brutally attacked. Its leaders and members were imprisoned and tortured and sentenced to long terms. The government agents even cut the tip of the tongue of Mansour Osaloo one of the leaders of the syndicat with a knife to stop him from speaking any longer in defence of the worker’s rights. All proletarian protests have been brutally attacked over these years. Fidel! No revolutionary or communist can support this.
I am aware that the women’s rights in Cuba are well guarded. They equally participate in the society with the men and their share of vocations is in excess of ۵۰ of the labour market. Many families in Cuba are supported by women and this is a norm in Cuba. I also know that in Cuba, like many other countries women enjoy the natural right of determination of their clothing. In the closing session of second congress of the Federation of Cuban Women in Havana you said: “ It is clear that women ought to take part in struggle against exploitation, against imperialism, neo-colonialism , racism and in one word struggle for national liberation and as long as these goals are being sought after women should struggle for their own liberation within the human society”. However, the women’s situation in my country is unlike this. I cannot go into the details of all of the discriminating laws and actions of Iranian government against my country’s women. However, I would like to at least draw your attention to the basic right of clothing and amaze you by saying that Iranian women are by law required to cover their body with the exception of face and hands and feet from the wrist. Such a backward law is enforced by police and any disobedience will result in imprisonment and beating on the street. Dear Comrade Castro, how can the Cuban communist party be supportive of this brutality against women?
In ۲۰۰۳ in a gathering you told the people of Havana: “one hundred percent of the Cubans are protected by Social Security. ۸۵ of the people have houses and don’t pay taxes. The other ۱۵ pay only a small rent, which is less than ۱۰ of their income.” In my country, almost no young person can dream of buying a house. The rents are close to ۹۰ of the income and year by year they are taking a larger share of the income. Hospitals refuse to register the sick with difficult illnesses and year by year more hospitals refuse to serve people on Social Security benefits.
In ۱۹۸۸ the World Health Organization determined a set of standards which were to be realized in all countries by the year ۲۰۰۰. This organization praised Cuba as the only country that has achieved these goals in the same year (i.e. ۱۹۸۴) and you received a medal of honour with that regard as the President of Cuba, a medal that you received for a second time in ۱۹۹۸. However, in my country it was lately revealed that the staff of a hospital in Tehran have taken a few patients with severe illnesses, who couldn’t pay the cost of treatment, on an ambulance and left the patients in the middle of nowhere outside the city. Knowing this, can you still support the policies of the fraudulent government of Ahmadinejad?
Cuba is the home to Caribbean music and your country has been for many years shining in the area of theatre and opera and North American critiques have praised the achievements of Cuba. Iranian regime is however, against all that. You can rarely find a performance hall built after the revolution. Iranian women are prohibited from singing and dancing and as we speak a few days back the fraudulent government of Ahmadinejad banned a well respected independent organization called the “Iranian House of Cinema”. As far as I remember, you were calling all countries to join on to the Kyoto Treaty, to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, and to pay attention to the environmental issues and breathing air across the globe. Let me tell you a little bit about the poor quality of air in Tehran and tell you that everyday millions of people are exposed to very grave illnesses caused by the poor quality of air in Tehran. I know that cleaning the air quality is one of the tasks of the governments.
You have mentioned about Cuba that: “This society doesn’t have an unemployed educated person. We divide all that we have among ourselves and this is socialism: fair division of all that we have. If we have more, each will receive more, if we have less, we will divide that among all. We will leave nobody alone. All workers enjoy the social security, all of the population have access to free health care even if they all need heart surgery. They also have right to free education”. In Iran however, the class division is raising havoc . In parts of the capital Tehran the disgusting face of poverty confronts you every minute of the day, groups of young kids at the stop signs jump in between the fancy cars to sell them chewing gum. You don’t find a family not struggling with unemployment. If a worker contracts an illness requiring an expensive treatment, I can assure you that the only path for him/her would be to death. By the way, have you heard of the recent ۳,۰۰۰,۰۰۰,۰۰۰$ embezzlement in Iran? Fidel! Are you defending this situation? Are you supporting the stance of the rulers that have brought all this on my people? What has happened to your genius and revolutionary awareness?
It has been a few years that against the constitution of ۱۹۷۹ revolution, the rulers of Iran have embarked on rampant privatization of government assets (even the heavy industries). This can’t be an action supported by you!
In conclusion:
Comrade Fidel I am tired of counting all this. I beg you to revise your stance on Coup d’etat regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and apologize to my people for shaking hands with the dictator. I beg you to consult with the Tudeh Party of Iran, who is your confidant of more than ۵۰ years of fraternal relations and listen to its fraternal advice. In February ۲۰۱۱, while writing about the Arab spring you said: “Poverty and unemployment have impacted the youth and militants. How could this people adapt themselves to ever rising prices of essential commodities? At this point, there remains no alternative for people but to come to the streets and ask for their basic rights. People who stand against the bullets cannot be defeated.”- Believe me my country’s situation is not different from this, I ask you to take the same stance for us also. I advise you to educate yourself about the Green Movement of Iran and ask you to consider supporting your old friend “MirHossein Mousavi” who without any conviction has been unlawfully put under house arrest. I beg you to a give a positive response to the request of Iranian prisoners: Mansour Osaloo (labour activist), Rasoul Bodaghi (teacher’s union activist), Isa Saharkhiz (journalist), Heshmatollah Tabarzadi (political activist and journalist) to denounce the Iranian government. I ask you to advise the University of Havana to re-consider carefully the basis for offering the honorary doctorate to Ahmadinejad and possibly taking it back before it further impacts the reputation of that institute.
I should also say that a few days ago I became aware of the procession of a religious symbol in Cuba, which was attended by Esteban Lazo, vice president, and Bruno Rodriguz, foreign minister of Cuba. In my book this is an insupportable act by a communist, which will only contribute to strengthening the religious superficiality. It is perfectly fine that Cubans are free in expressing their religious beliefs. However, I don’t understand why members of the communist party should attend these ceremonies. I also wanted to take the opportunity to ask you to find a way out for the filtering situation of internet in Cuba, so that Cubans will have free access to all information. Let the people decide for themselves, which is right and which is not.
At the end let me finish by repeating Che Guevara:
“If you become enraged while facing an injustice, you are one of my comrades.”
You have been a comrade of Che, let’s hope that all of us will remain so.

Sooner or later, the Green Movement of Iran will participate in another rally. I will take a small photo of you that I have in my office with me and simplemindedly but hopefully will share with you the struggle of my people against injustice. I hope that this letter will stand a chance for getting translated to Spanish and reaching your hands, if I die or get arrested that day.
